Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT, is an evidence-based, humanistic approach built on the understanding that emotion is the core organizer of our experience and our relationships. When couples get stuck in painful, repetitive arguments or distance, it’s rarely about the surface-level issue; it’s usually an expression of deeper emotions and unmet attachment needs that haven’t found a way to be heard.
In session, we slow down the cycle that keeps you stuck, the pursue-withdraw pattern, the criticism-defensiveness loop, the shutdown that follows conflict, and help each partner access and share the softer, more vulnerable emotions underneath. As those emotions become visible to each other, couples often find it easier to respond with empathy instead of defensiveness, which allows new, more secure patterns of connection to take root.
While EFT is primarily known as a couples modality, its principles can also support individuals working through relational patterns and attachment wounds.
