Therapy for Anxiety & Self-Doubt Rooted in Childhood Emotional Neglect
The anxiety is hard to explain because it grew out of what no one helped you make sense of.
If no one helped you make sense of your inner world, you learned to scan and second-guess yourself instead:
The result is anxiety that is chronic, low-grade, and never quite settles, along with doubt about what you feel, want, or need. Rumination and overthinking become a way of staying prepared. It often happens in families that were loving and well-intentioned, which is why it’s so easy to miss.
Understanding the pattern usually isn’t enough to change it. In therapy, we work with the nervous system directly to rebuild your inner compass, so steadiness becomes something you experience, not just something you understand.
How anxiety and self-doubt show up
A chronic, low-grade uneasiness that is hard to explain
Finding it hard to trust what you feel, want, or need
A mind and body that stays on alert even when nothing is wrong
Overthinking as a way of staying prepared for the next bad thing to happen
Difficulty identifying feelings, or a sense of being disconnected from yourself
Difficulty making decisions, trusting your own judgment, or knowing what you want
Many of my clients are accomplished, capable, and highly self-aware. They’ve often tried therapy, books, and self-reflection, and can explain their anxiety well. They want it to actually settle.

What therapy looks like:
-
Maybe you already know… but if not, we identify how emotional neglect shaped your adaptations and what they’re protecting.
-
Developing the ability to notice, name, and tolerate emotion, often for the first time.
-
Approaching the critic, the achiever, and the numb part with curiosity rather than fighting them.
-
Known as Memory Reconsolidation-
Providing the new experiences that allow old beliefs (“my needs are too much,” “I’m on my own,” “I’m not enough”) to change.
-
Carrying the changes into your relationships, work, and daily life.
Other FAQs:
-
Anxiety is a state of feeling when your mind is predicting or recreating an experience where the was danger or threat. Its fear… but thrown into an imagined future.
-
If you feel anxiety is mild and isn’t disrupting your life, you may not have a need for treatment. But what if that feeling wasn’t there in that ‘certain’ scenario? What might life be like then?
-
Understanding is a vital first step, but patterns formed through experience often need a new experience to shift. That’s the focus of my work.
